The CMDSP certification is a mobile security certification for security professionals working in the field of mobile devices, whether managing individual devices or an enterprise with multiple device types and platforms. This certification demonstrates that an individual possesses an underlying core body of specialized, in-depth knowledge of the described topic areas. While some topic areas may apply to all mobile operating systems, this certification is designed to demonstrate competence with Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android OS. Other OS (Symbian, Windows, RIM, etc.) are not specifically covered under this certification.
Persons in these positions are generally responsible for review and analysis of security requirements, working with senior team members to develop integrated plans to protect corporate assets and information technology (reducing risk), and administering security systems to support daily security operations.
In addition, the candidate should have a good system level understanding of mobile/device app, os, networking and embedded systems technologies driving the smartphone, tablet, and personal entertainment device markets.

Scope of Certification
- Device Hardware Overview

Different devices have different features on their hardware. Some are equipped with cameras while others are equipped with sensors. CMDSP candidates must have a strong understanding of the different types of existing mobile devices and be able to distinguish each device’s hardware features. They must demonstrate how each of the differences in design can lead to different security risks and problems.
- Mobile Operating Systems

The operating systems act as the core of mobile devices’ function. It is crucial for a mobile device security professional to understand the different components that make up the operating system, and what kind of operating systems each mobile device uses. He/She must also know the vulnerabilities that exist within the operating system, and how these vulnerabilities can be exploited. The CMDSP exam will test candidates’ knowledge of the OS, particularly for the two most popular systems: the iOS and Android.
- Connectivity and Network

This domain will cover the ways that devices communicate with other mobile devices, computers, and the wider Internet. It will also cover data connections with cloud environments, cellular data, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and other networking tools. An understanding of the network systems and each of their architecture is fundamental in securely using mobile devices in today’s ever-connected world.
- Enterprise Mobility Managment Strategy

Managing mobile devices in an enterprise setting is important. This domain covers knowledge of how to securely manage and utilize devices in an enterprise. It will also test CMDSP candidates’ understanding of enterprise policies, such as “bring your own device” policy, and other common ways and means of how mobile devices are used among enterprises. CMDSP candidates should know which strategies and policies to implement in particular settings to protect and manage enterprise operations and data.
Do I Qualify for the CMDSP?
CMDSP certifications target individuals who have past experience in enabling mobile devices in their company. The assessment focuses on the five domains listed above. Those who are not familiar with any of the above subjects are strongly recommended to take a CMDSP training course with one of our authorized training partners.
